Unfortunately Julian Heicklen was not sufficiently prepared for being arrested in so much that those who were helping him or observing him were not given the contact information for his family. Thankfully I live close to Julian and have met his wife before so today I drove down to his home and spent about 30 minutes speaking with Mrs. Susan Heicklen regarding Julian.
- It appears that the NYPD turned Julian over to the psychiatric ward in Bellevue Hospital. A Mr. Miguel (sp?) called Susan on Wednesday morning to discuss Julian’s mental health to which Susan explained that she felt he was in fine mental health but was doing something that the authorities disagreed with.
- After being released by the hospital he was taken to Riker’s Island and was unable to be reached while in receiving. A friend of Susan’s gave her the contact information for a rabi within Riker’s who was able to talk with Julian and report back that he was doing fine.
- Friday Susan called the NYC DOC to find that Julian was being transfered but they would not say were at the time. The rabi was able to determine it was to the North Infirmary Command (NIC).
- Saturday Susan confirmed that the NIC was providing Julian with the medications that he has been taking.
- Julian indicated that he would like some reading material. Susan will be mailing things to him on Tuesday the 1st of June likely. People are encouraged to send him things to read if they feel so inclined.
- Due to the complexities in visiting inmates Susan as of now is not planning on visiting Julian at this time. Should anyone have the time and means to visit him as prescribed on the NYC DOC website please do so. He is allowed 3 visits a week with upto 3 visitors at a time.
- Julian has not expressed interest in receiving money but it would give him a bit more freedom.
- Julian has said that he does *not* want a lawyer. However, his wife thinks that it is fine if lawyers who may wish to offer their services or even just advice attempt to contact him. Or they may contact me and I can relay their contact information to his wife who can then inform Julian.
- Should anyone have something important to pass along to Julian please contact me and I will pass it along to his wife.
- Julian was surprised to find that he had a court date on June 8th, 2010. He would like to have that moved up but it is unlikely that can or would happen.
The address to send letters to Julian is:
Julian Heicklen
NYSID: 02569223L
North Infirmary Command
15-00 Hazen Street
East Elmhurst, NY 11370
Susan has said she will contact me if anything changes.
