Sen. John McCain has picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, a senior McCain campaign official told CNN on Friday. Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, here in February, will be Sen. John McCain's running mate, a campaign official says. Palin, 44, who’s in her first term as governor, is a pioneering figure in Alaska, the first woman and the youngest person to hold the state’s top political job.

She catapulted to the post with a strong reputation as a political outsider, forged during her stint in local politics. She was mayor and a council member of the small town of Wasilla and was chairman of the state Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska’s oil and gas resources, in 2003 and 2004.

VP debates should be interesting.

Snooze Alert: Obama/Biden Ticket

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) — Sen. Barack Obama has selected Delaware Sen. Joe Biden as his running mate, according to his official Web site and a text message the campaign sent to supporters on Saturday.

“Barack has chosen Senator Joe Biden to be our VP nominee,” the text message, sent at around 3 a.m. ET, said.

“Joe and I will appear for the first time as running mates this afternoon in Springfield, Illinois — the same place this campaign began more than 19 months ago,” Obama said in an e-mail sent to supporters Saturday morning.

“I’m excited about hitting the campaign trail with Joe, but the two of us can’t do this alone,” he wrote. “We need your help to keep building this movement for change.”

On Friday, CNN learned three Democrats who had been considered contenders for the No. 2 spot, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, had been ruled out.

Before the text messages were distributed, multiple Democratic sources confirmed to CNN early Saturday that Obama wanted the Delaware senator as his vice president.

Biden was long considered a possible choice for vice president, but the buzz surrounding him intensified after he returned earlier this week from a two-day trip to the Republic of Georgia after Russian troops invaded.

And change takes the form of a crusty, old white guy. So, this was what the build-up was all about? Really? Obama, you tease, I’m a little let down. Given all the buzz, I was expecting something different and exciting. For a campaign that is seeking to redefine the definition of “change”, I was really expecting it in the form of: Bill Richardson, Mike Gravel, or Charlie the Chimp.

Oh well, US politics: business as usual.  ::yawn::

Videos of Jesse Ventura on Larry King Live

Part 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Entertaining and interesting. As I’ve said before, it’s good to see another face putting out these ideas on a national forum. Doesn’t say he’ll run but he really doesn’t seem to say he won’t. “Give me ballot access and all beat them all.” Will anyone in the LP approach him? There are a lot of LP candidates right now and I don’t know that we need another… but Ventura is surely better than a good portion of them.

You really have to love how partisan and clueless those pundits are. Jesse is up there ripping the system a new one and pundits try to classify him as simply as a “independent voter.”

House narrowly defeats measure to defund the VP’s office

The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday narrowly defeated a Democratic amendment to deny funds to operate Vice President Dick Cheney’s office next year in a feud over his handling of classified documents.

By a vote of 217-209, the House defeated legislation designed to rebuke Cheney for refusing, over objections by the National Archives, to comply with an executive order that set government-wide procedures for safeguarding classified national security information.

Looks like our friendly libertarian Republican presidential candidate voted for the defunding and against the pay raise. Unfortunately they both failed.
