The Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office has released the list of write-in candidates from the 2008 presidential election.

The list includes 736 votes in all, covering 191 different candidates.

Hillary Clinton topped all write-ins with 234 votes. Ron Paul had 174. The 3rd most votes? Jesus with 23.

Some of the others in the political arena receiving votes included Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Colin Powell, Rudy Giuliani, and Al Gore.

Two people wanted and thought it was possible to get 4 more years out of President George W. Bush. Condoleeza Rice, John Edwards, Fred Thompson, Pat Buchanan, and Charlie Crist also had support.

One person wrote in Ralph Nader, ignoring the circle they could’ve filled in to signify that choice.

Newt Gingrich, Harry Reid, and Theodore Roosevelt also garnered support. One person just wrote Lieberman.

Jay Plotkin lost the race for State Attorney, but his 1 vote beat Angela Corey in the presidential race. And the hyrbid candidate Hilary Bush got a vote!?

In the battle of the Bills – Bill Cosby and Bill Nye both received 2, beating Bills Clinton and Richardson with one apiece.

Morgan Freeman got a vote

Chuck Norris did too.

Mr. Bill – yes, the fictional clay figure – also was chosen by someone to lead the country.

Oprah Winfrey endorsed Obama but one person out there said ‘no, Oprah, I want you!”.

Many names weren’t celebrities. Jacksonville resident Wayne Bryan says he voted for himself because he “didn’t like his choices”. When asked if he was ready to lead on day one if elected, he admitted probably not.

America got a vote. My dog. A bear. Mickey Mouse.

UF beat FSU as Tim Tebow received 2 votes with Seminole coach Bobby Bowden getting just one.

Jon Bon Jovi, someone honest, Tiger Woods, Tommy Chong, and perhaps the greatest write-in candidate of all time: Twice cooked pork $4.95

I think I have to agree with the last statement. Twice cooked pork $4.95 would have been the best president ever. Even better then William Henry Harrison.

Kotaku looked at presidential campaign donations for nine companies from January of 2007 through the end of July, 2008. The companies included were Activision, Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Nintendo, Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Take-Two, THQ, Ubisoft and Valve.

The database showed that the nine companies donated a total of about $97,800 to ten candidates, about $61,000 of which went to democratic candidates, while about $36,700 went to republican candidates.

The company with the largest contributions to campaigns was Electronic Arts, followed by Activision and then Valve. The company with the smallest amount of donations was Take-Two. Hit the jump for an avalanche of colorful pie charts and one, single, lonely bar graph.

The graphs unfortunately are scaled down too much to clearly see the legends on all of them but it is clear that while they lean Democratic party, Ron Paul was the favorite Republican. Being that I’m a gamer and a supporter of Ron Paul I’m glad to see this. Especially the Sony breakdown.

Today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) spoke to the National Urban League, a group “devoted to empowering African Americans to enter the economic and social mainstream.” When an audience member asked him how he planned to reduce urban crime, McCain praised Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s efforts in New York Cirty before invoking the military’s tactics in Iraq as the model for crime-fighting:

MCCAIN: And some of those tactics — you mention the war in Iraq — are like that we use in the military. You go into neighborhoods, you clamp down, you provide a secure environment for the people that live there, and you make sure that the known criminals are kept under control. And you provide them with a stable environment and then they cooperate with law enforcement, etc, etc.

[youtube Md8MkPy7asQ 320 64]

What was it I heard last week about McCain? “I hate war” I believe it was. Just like he loves the 1st and 4th Amendment right?

http://www.opednews.com/…

When Gabe Razzano went to the polling place on Tuesday evening where his mother tried to vote for Ron Paul he was told the same thing, “Ron Paul has dropped out of the race” He was actually shown the display card which by law must hang on the wall and where they had crossed out Ron Paul’s name along with Rudy Giuliani’s. Gabe did the only thing he could do, he called the police. The Freeport Police arrived and asked what the problem was. Gabe proceeded to tell them that his mother tried to vote for Ron Paul but was told she could not because he had dropped out of the race when in fact he had not. The police officer, Sargent Essex, went out to his car, spoke to his superior and came back in to tell Gabe that there was apparently no problem as “Ron Paul had dropped out of the Race”. *Note, when Gabe went to pick up the police report yesterday, the police officer left off the fact that he said that Ron Paul had dropped out of the race. Gabe has 3 witnesses that the police officer said this.

Well, Ron Paul has NOT dropped out of the race for President of the United States of America. And Freeport Long Island is not the only place where this rumor spread……. when Steve Miller, a volunteer poll watcher for Ron Paul, called in a report that a woman was trying to vote for Ron Paul at her polling place, PS 180 in Brooklyn, when her machine malfunctioned. She was given an emergency ballot and was informed by multiple poll workers that she could not vote for Ron Paul because he was not on the ballot. (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/supertuesday/2008/02/ron-paul-backer-cries-foul-in.html) Eventually she was able to vote when they realized they were wrong. But what about the people who tried to vote earlier?

Eddie in Monroe County, New York, was told by a poll monitor in his county that Ron Paul had been taken off the list. He knew better as he is also a grass-roots volunteer for Ron Paul but he wonders at other’s who were easily convinced by these misinformed people? Tim M in Marlton, NJ –our friendly next door state– had a member of his meet-up come to the rescue by calling the appropriate agencies when a particular polling place in his town were telling the voters that they can’t vote for Ron Paul because he had dropped out. There are more stories. I started a thread on a Ron Paul message board and stories keep coming in but there are already youtubes all over the country of this sort of thing happening in many of the Super-Tuesday states.

On closing….my fifteen year daughter was helping at her high school on Tuesday night for Super Tuesday. When she came home I told her about what was going on with the Ron Paul election fraud situation and her exact words were “Yeah, I heard today from lots of my friends that Ron Paul had dropped out”……..

It may not seem like much but your average voter may very well be convinced to vote otherwise if this occurred. There are other reports in the comments. It’s easy to believe that this occurred because of mallisious intent. However, it’s also just as easy to believe this all happened because of the MSMs blackout of Paul. When he gets less time in a debate to speak than time used to ask questions it’s understandable that some people would think he was out of the race. They simply don’t give him much air time.

Mitt Romney : 261 pledged, 9 unpledged
Mike Huckabee : 173 pledged, 3 unpledged
Ron Paul : 16 pledged, 0 unpledged

According to CNN.com:

Mike Huckabee : 173 pledged, 3 unpledged

Ron Paul : 16 pledged, 0 unpledged

As noted on the CNN site says: “Unpledged delegates in the Republican Party do not have to indicate a candidate preference, but a majority are elected just like pledged delegates. Of the 463 unpledged delegates, 123 are RNC members who become delegates automatically.”

These numbers are estimates. No one knows for sure who all the delegates belong. Some states have yet to finalize them.

The Paul campaign has announced that in fact they have an estimated 42 delegates.

There are 2,380 – 1,142 = 1,238 delegates left to get.

With 680 total delegates McCain needs 1,191 – 680 = 511 more to lock in a win. 551/1,238 = 44.5% of those available.

The Wikipedia article on the Republican presidential primaries does a wonderful job sorting out when and how delegates are picked.

Kansas has 36: Paul is the number 1 fundraiser, Rudy 2nd, McCain 3rd. I suspect McCain will do well but with no poll data it’s hard to tell. This poll which matches candidates shows McCain doing the best against Clinton so my guess is he wins. It’s not a winner take all however. If we follow Montana which Paul also was number 1 fundraiser… it went to Romney who raised 2nd most.

Washington has 40: Paul is doing well there. 2nd in fundraising to Mitt. Hopefully those two pick up most of the delegates.

Virginia is winner takes all. Looks like McCain will take their 63.

Maryland looks like Rudy and Romney country. Assuming they move from Rudy to McCain he may pickup a majority of their 37.

DC looks like a McCain win with 16.

Louisiana is a cluster fuck. Paul may have gotten 2nd to the Pro-Life slate though McCain may have. Either way it’s split and counted in the 42 the Paul campaign is claiming. There are more (24+) to be selected however.

Wisconsin should go well for Paul and be fairly split. They have 37 to give.

Based on $$ raised Romney should pick up a majority of Ohio but Rudy + McCain could take a large chunk of the 85 they have.

Texas’ 137 appear to be very split. If the Rudy supporters go to McCain he will get many of the delegates.

I’m counting about 330 for McCain from these states. At that rate it seems likely he will get his 511 but it may be fairly close. I’ve heard rumors that some of his delegates aren’t really his. I doubt it’s all that many but it could be enough to force a brokered convention. Even though I don’t expect Paul to get the nomination the opportunity to address the entire Republican establishment and pitch his platform would be priceless. The whole Republican world would hopefully be watching.

The Democrat race is still in the air a bit. While Clinton is ahead by nearly 100 delegates there is still many states left and a long time till their convention.

McCain did well as expected. I think primarily because of the number of winner take all states. Had the delegates been split up it would probably would have been much closer.

McCain won 9 states. Huckabee 5. Romney 7. Paul 0.

Accounting for things like what occurred in West Virginia the number of delegates dedicated to each candidate is not quite accurate.

The available numbers also don’t account for any internal events which may be occurring in the states. I’m not familiar with the workings of all the different states but some use this primary or caucus to vote for state delegates which will at a later time pick national delegates. In those cases the MSM reports the national delegates as if they were already selected. If someone was to drop before the nationals are selected than they could vote differently.

In several states Giuliani actually got votes. He even beat Paul 5% to 4% in California with 90% reporting. Assuming much of those votes would have gone to McCain it doesn’t look like they would have changed the results in any of the states. Again given the differing systems it’s hard to say for sure. Thompson even got 3% in Tennessee. In that race it could have changed the outcome. Huckabee got 34% and McCain got 32%. I suspect it would have helped Huckabee more than McCain however. I’d like to know if these were protest votes or people who didn’t realize their candidate of choice had dropped. I hope it’s the former.

There has been several accounts of voting issues with Paul supporters. Three from people I know. Steve Miller in Brooklyn saw issues with voting machines not working and those running the poll said that only 2 Republicans where running and Jim Lesczynski and his wife had changed their party affiliation months ago yet the voting place had them as their old party. Here in NJ they had my girlfriend and I marked as unaffiliated and we had to choose which party to vote for on the spot. No harm but sad that I had changed to R months ago and received confirmation saying as much.

Paul did well in states he was expected to do well in but not as well as some thought. 3rd in Alaska is disappointing given the level of support that was expected. He was the number 1 fundraiser there. In Montana Paul was again the number 1 fundraiser with more than twice what Romney in second raised. Yet Romney won 38% of the state delegates vs Paul’s 25%. Unfortunately Montana is a winner takes all state and the delegates are apparently required to vote for that individual. It’s even more interesting in North Dakota where Paul again was the largest fundraiser with Romney raising the least yet Romney won the majority with Paul a close 3rd with 21% to McCain’s 23%. Both get the same number of delegates as does Huckabee with his 4th place 20%.

He also did worse in some states where he was polling last but with higher percentages than he actually received.

Paul generally got spanked but that was expected. The race is still not over and even with McCain in the lead he’s only 60% the way to the nomination. Obviously money does not mean votes. As a movement we need to better target the public. I truly believe the MSM did us great harm in this race and we need to figure out a way to deal with that in the future. The counties around the several states where Paul won or did well should be analyzed and replicated. I don’t believe there was anything particularly special about those voters it was how we advertised and presented our candidate to them. We need to convince people not only of his platform but his electability. As much as we hate that that is a major component to the average voters decision it’s reality and we need to counteract the MSM putdowns and writeoffs. Spend less money on blimps and more on newspaper, radio and TV ads. More articles to the editor which aren’t defensive and complaining about being left out but offensive and comparative and explains why our policies are right and better for the average voter. While we may lose this battle the fact we are able to get such high numbers in some areas of the nation should give us encouragement. In local and national elections were we are targeting much smaller audiences we have a better shot at getting freedom fighters in office. Murray Sabrin’s campaign for Senate has been able to get more money than they where asking for from 47 states. That kind of support will hopefully help get those people elected. Also as a libertarian candidate we’ve gotten a low of 3% and high of 25%. This is just unheard of in the Libertarian Party generally. Nationally Paul is pushing 7%-9% from what I’ve seen. That’s really huge. We do have an audience we just need to approach them. We probably have a larger audience we just need to get by the MSM’s attacks and blackout. On a local level that’s much easier.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happens when and if Huckabee or even Romney drop out. It seems to me that those supporting them would be hard pressed to support “liberal” John McCain. If Paul does not drop and seeks the Libertarian ticket he could possibly pick up quite a few delegates. I understand that is a fairly unlikely situation but I’d love to see it just to gage what and why people choose a candidate.

To leave on a more optimistic note, A Scorecard You Won’t Find on Fox News:

Supporter Loren C. sends in this excellent summary of what Ron Paul has achieved so far.

A friend of mine asked me tonight, “Should Ron Paul just quit? I never hear of him on the news so he can’t be doing very well today (Super Tuesday).” Here is my reply to him:

I don’t care what the liberal media is saying, he has,

2nd place in Nevada

2nd place in Louisiana (possibly first once they get it sorted out)

2nd place in Montana

2nd place in Maine

3rd place in Utah

3rd place in North Dakota

There is about 21 more states left to vote,

He has plenty of money,

No one has even close to enough delegates to take the nomination,

He has the only true Republican stance on the issues,

He is the only candidate who believes our government should follow ALL of the Constitution,

Quit?

Not even close. Keep fighting, Ron Paul is!

Well said. And while the momentum John McCain has been gaining lately may appear daunting, Ron Paul supporters are the ones who should be least intimidated by it, because as the other, fraudulent alternatives to John McCain fail one by one — Mitt Romney is certainly on the ropes after tonight, especially if, as appears to be the case, he loses California to McCain — the real alternative to McCain-ism, Ron Paul, will only become more attractive to conservative Republican voters.

Indeed, it’s interesting to note that so many of the states McCain won tonight were blue states which any Republican (except the antiwar Dr. Paul) will have a hard, if not impossible, time winning in November. And despite his wins tonight, McCain does not have a majority of Republican National Delegates, so the fight for the nomination is still very much on.

Obviously money doesn’t mean votes nor will those locations where he has gained rank because of some dropping out help him much. It is however interesting with regards to how the MSM regards him as a gadfly. He’s raised more from the numerous branches of the military than all other candidates combined. He raised more than twice what any other Republican did in the 4th quarter at nearly $20m. He’s the number one Republican fundraiser in 5 states and second in 8 without removing those who have dropped out.

http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/…

Mr. Warner, 80, who hails from a Virginia farm, told a story about traveling to Bayonne, N.J., in 1945 to board a ship bound for Japan, only to be turned around when news came that the war ended. He spoke into a wall of more than 20 signs for Mr. Paul, held aloft by the Texas congressman’s dozens of vociferous supporters.

“New Jersey is the industrial heart of America, and you served us in that time of crisis like no other,” he said.

In a straw vote taken on two electronic voting machines after the forum Mr. Paul won handily, capturing 52 of 120 votes cast. Mr. McCain got 40 votes, Mitt Romney scored 27 and Mike Huckabee got a single vote, claimed by Wojciech Siemaszkiewicz, a librarian and Republican activist who gave a stump speech for Mr. Huckabee.

“I like Mike!” he bellowed when Mr. Huckabee’s single vote was announced.

The dress of the more than 150 people at the event ranged from a long-haired man in a tie-dye shirt and flip-flops wearing a Ron Paul sticker, to 10 men in suits and ties, five sporting McCain stickers and five sporting Romney stickers. An infant wore a bib that read, “Mac is Back!”

Many in attendance were impressed by Mr. Warner’s appearance. Gary Berner, 55, the municipal chair of Lyndhurst, said that the senator’s appearance “enlivened the party in the county.”

Mr. Berner, who supported Rudolph W. Giuliani until the former mayor dropped out of the race, said he was persuaded by Mr. Giuiliani’s endorsement of Mr. McCain.

bile, 27, a Fort Lee resident with a Ron Paul sticker affixed to his black T-shirt with a yellow skull that read, “Don’t Tread On Me,” said that he believes the McCain campaign sent Mr. Warner to New Jersey because, “he was probably free and able to do it and they don’t have anyone in the area well known enough.”

It was still Mr. Paul and his supporters who some viewed as the biggest pariahs, despite Mr. Warner’s praise of everyone in the room who took part in the straw poll, which he called a “grassroots effort that lays the foundation block for America’s political system.”

Clara Nibot, 62, who supports Mr. Romney, said she felt Mr. Paul’s supporters poisoned that grass.

“This is a sabotage of the straw poll,” she huffed after the forum, “Because of Ron Paul’s organized, grassroots effort.”

I did effectively say that… but what else are you going to say when someone asks: “Why do you think the McCain camp sent up a southern Senator?” I mean really… plenty of NJ pols have endorsed McCain I’m sure so why Warner? I doubt the fact he was shipped out of Bayonne had anything to do with it… that’s fairly obscure.

That last quote is great though. As I said… many of the people there weren’t happy that we were so organized. Sure Paul won’t win NJ… I know that… but it’s good to get out there and show them we mean business and we won’t be going away quietly. We may be polling 4th of 4 at 5%-8% but that’s enough to get things done. Especially at the local level.
