The Competitive Enterprise Institute has selected a moderate Republican, Lee Doren, as the new Crasher-in-Chief of Bureaucrash. The ongoing miniseries about the new direction of Bureaucrash in a not so bureaucracy-crashing direction continues. Sorry for the delay. My life is going in a good direction but is in a transition phase right now that makes things very hectic.

Stay tuned for the third, and probably final episode in this series! Bring personal lubricant for your own safety.

Bureaucrash has been a bold voice for liberty for years, steadily growing in popularity, but it’s taken on a not-so-bold new direction toward partisan politics as usual. Lee Doren was chosen as the new Crasher in Chief by the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

It seems to me that Lee might best be described as a moderate Republican. That’s arguably not the worst thing a person can be, certainly, but his personal principles seem not at all in line with the stated goals of Bureaucrash. Lee’s referred to certain blogs as conservative (slash) libertarian, as if these are interchangeable terms, and some new entries on the B.C. blogroll since he arrived include Michelle Malkin’s and Rush Limbaugh’s. He also demonstrates a failure to grasp the fallacies of collectivism. In short, his failure to even understand the principles of liberty himself means that he will inevitably use the powerful voice of Bureaucrash to distort the meaning for thousands of others.

If you are disturbed by this new direction of the organization, I encourage you to join a new group on the Bureacrash Social website called Countering the Crasher-in-Chief. In the span of just a few days, it’s accumulated over 80 members.

Sadly, the organization is not likely to simply fade away. Instead, by embracing the mainstream, it will probably grow, but it will have lost the edge that made it a special place for principled lovers of liberty. For now, it has chosen a quantity over quality approach when it comes to members, which I feel is very short-sighted, but then that depends on the goals of the owners. If their only goal is to grow membership, then perhaps they have chosen well. I just hope they have more meaningful goals than that.

If this new direction is not quickly changed, Bureaucrash will lose quite a few supporters, including Ian Freeman, host of Free Talk Live, and myself. I do not want Mr. Doren wielding the voice of Bureaucrash to distort the already diluted meaning of the word “libertarian”. If this mistake isn’t nipped in the bud, it is my opinion that Bureaucrash goes far beyond becoming unworthy of your support. They become an enemy.

Alright… Question 1:
Political Identified Profile field, when will it return

Lee Doren
As soon as I get confirmation to add it back—it was my intention to add at asap Friday, but then it was unclear what my authority was to do so
The only reason why it was removed was so I could add something else asap
Like an open-ended political affiliation

Iused to say that a libertarian is just a Republican who wants to smoke pot and watch porn. That was before I attended a Bob Dylan concert in Laconia some years ago. Shortly after the concert began, a young woman two rows in front of me stood up. She continued to stand throughout the concert. Never mind that everyone around her was seated.

I asked the man sitting in front of me to ask the woman to kindly sit because she was blocking people’s views. She continued to stand. I asked an usher to ask her to sit. He spoke to her and walked away, the offending woman still standing. I called the usher over and he told me the woman said she will stand if she wants to because it is her right; there was nothing the usher could do about it.

Apparently this phenomenon is fairly common, because around that time it was lampooned on “Saturday Night Live.” At that concert, she was one of perhaps 10 scattered audience members standing. When I regularly attended concerts in the 1960s and ’70s the audience would either collectively stand or sit. That’s when I realized my original assessment of libertarians was wrong, since even the staunchest Republican I know would have the courtesy to sit down.

Libertarians say they espouse the rights of the individual, which always seemed to me to be just a political way of saying me first, second and third and the hell with everyone else.

I missed the fact that the video I posted last night was done by the new Bureaucrash Crasher in Chief.

Dear BureauCrash:

I would like to briefly introduce myself. My name is Lee Doren, and I will be the new CIC of BureauCrash starting on May 29, 2009. My goal is to take this grassroots movement to the next level with your help. However, in order to make this a success, I would like to hear your input on how BureauCrash can be improved, both in substance and in terms of the website design, etc.

Please leave your feedback at the bottom so that I may consider your input.

My bio is as follows:

1) I grew up in Buffalo, NY;

2) Graduated from the University of Michigan;

3) I then finished my Law Degree at Chicago-Kent College of Law;

4) During Law School, I was on Chicago-Kent’s Moot Court Honor Society team (currently ranked #1 in the Country);

5) Between classes in Law School I started the blog, “Copious Dissent – Your Daily Dose of Liberty,” as a hobby, writing under the alias “Devil’s Advocate.” Copious Dissent soon was linked to most of the major Conservative/ Libertarian blogs, including Hot Air, Michelle Malkin, Instapundit, Gateway Pundit, Pajamas Media, Right Wing News, Ace of Spades, NewsBusters and Rush Limbaugh’s top headlines, etc. As a result, I was invited to numerous conference calls with Senators, Representatives and the American Petroleum Institute;

6) After I passed the Illinois Bar and began looking for work, I started the YouTube Channel, HowTheWorldWorks, in mid-December 2008, which currently has over 8,000 subscribers;

7) As a result of my YouTube videos, I was asked to blog exclusively for Right Wing News with John Hawkins;

8) In Mid-May of this year, I made a video critique of “The Story of Stuff” that was picked up by Fox News and emailed around to the Competitive Enterprise Institute, which is how BureauCrash found me;

9) Eventually, I was asked to interview for the CIC position, and was offered the job this week.

Here is my 4-Part critique on “The Story of Stuff.”

Here is a video I made regarding the merging of the Left-Wing Blogs and mainstream Media:

Here is a typical video that I make on HowTheWorldWorks:

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Best,

Lee

There are a few videos he posts that seem to confirm he’s little more then a stereotypical Republican.

@JDTally, @blogofbile and @danrick77 had this back and forth last night:

(05/30/2009 10:44:24 PM) JDTalley: This thread on Bureaucrash will be fun to watch: http://ow.ly/a9dF #andsad #firewall

(05/30/2009 11:58:25 PM) blogofbile: @JDTalley Umm… how exactly does this guy fit in to Bureaucrash’s culture? Am I missing something?

(05/31/2009 12:33:51 AM) JDTalley: @blogofbile CEI is trying to change the culture of Bureaucrash. That’s fine but they should change the name.

(05/31/2009 05:51:12 AM) danrick77: @jdtalley I thought I’d give this guy a chance. Turns out he’s a grade A toolbag. Crasher since 2000 and I’m likely leaving over this.

Rather unfortunate that the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) would do this. Seems libertarianism has become a threat to the average big government Republican due to their slaughtering in recent elections along with the growing popularity of Ron Paul Revolution and libertarian ideas.

If you can’t beat’em, corrupt’em?

Who knows… perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself and the Bureaucrash culture will change Doren and CEI rather then the opposite. Here’s to hope and change.
