A man wrongly jailed when a woman cried rape has failed to prevent being charged £12,500 for his “board and lodging” while in prison.Warren Blackwell, 38, spent three years in jail as a convicted sex attacker until his ‘victim’ was unmasked as a fantasist.

It was revealed he has been awarded £252,500 compensation for his lost years - but minus the estimated cost of his food and accommodation while behind bars.

Mr Blackwell said he had failed to stop the money being siphoned off after his lawyer told him there was little to be done about it.

The father-of-two, said: “It’s the principle of the thing. They slam you in jail for three years and four months, brand you a sex attacker, leave your family to cope without you, then turn around and say sorry but demand £12,500 for living expenses incurred during your time inside.

Mr Blackwell was jailed on the word of a woman who claims he seized her at knifepoint outside a village club early on New Year’s Day 1999, marched her down an alleyway and indecently assaulted her.

She picked him out of an identity parade and a jury found him guilty, even though there was no forensic evidence and he had no previous convictions.

The conviction appears to have been a sham. That’s sad enough. This taking of room and board costs is pretty disgusting. £12,500 seems pretty low, I doubt that their prison system is that efficient, so perhaps he’s making out in that regard but it’s no less heinous. How can anyone defend this?

Democat CNN YouTube debate

I wasn’t impressed… then again when is anyone with these things? The YouTube format was interesting but given that the questions were filtered it wasn’t all that different from the normal format. I think Obama, Clinton and Edwards performed as expected and generally uninteresting. Dodd started off strong I thought and was fairly well spoken but was given far less time later in the program. Gravel and Kusinich were unfortunately left out of much of the debate but given they have the most disciplined beliefs it’s not surprising. Much as Ron Paul is marginalized in Republican debates.  Richardson really didn’t stand out much besides I believe his one response about NCLB. The most ridiculous comments of the night goto Kusinich on reparations and Biden’s on the ‘baby’ gun question. His arrogant and ignorant response was offensive to those of us who agree with the 2nd Amendment and cherish our right to personal defense. His insulting of the person posing the question was showing of his feelings about gun ownership and owners or at least  what he believes the electorate wish him to say. It also strengthens my paranoia that the government would define those who they don’t agree with as mental defectives to keep arms out of their hands.

Lets hope the Republican version is more entertaining. Hopefully Ron Paul will be present and given his supporters have a very strong online presents we will get some good questions for him and the other candidates.

JPMorgan Chase apologized for slavery, paid reparations

From Yahoo News:

In a 2005 letter, then-Chairman & CEO William B. Harrison Jr. and then- President & COO Jamie Dimon stated, “We apologize to the African-American community, particularly those who are descendants of slaves, and to the rest of the American public…” This apology was accompanied by a Company pledge to establish a $5 million scholarship fund for African-Americans. Dimon now serves as Executive Chairman and CEO.

Wow… funny stuff. Not sure how I missed this back then. I’m glad the shareholders are pissed. If I had investments in JPMorgan I’d be transfering them right now. How is it that they are just now making a big deal about this? Better late than never I suppose.

Unfortuantly at this time I’m unable to find anything about the result of todays meeting.
