The Duval County Supervisor of Elections Office has released the list of write-in candidates from the 2008 presidential election.

The list includes 736 votes in all, covering 191 different candidates.

Hillary Clinton topped all write-ins with 234 votes. Ron Paul had 174. The 3rd most votes? Jesus with 23.

Some of the others in the political arena receiving votes included Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Colin Powell, Rudy Giuliani, and Al Gore.

Two people wanted and thought it was possible to get 4 more years out of President George W. Bush. Condoleeza Rice, John Edwards, Fred Thompson, Pat Buchanan, and Charlie Crist also had support.

One person wrote in Ralph Nader, ignoring the circle they could’ve filled in to signify that choice.

Newt Gingrich, Harry Reid, and Theodore Roosevelt also garnered support. One person just wrote Lieberman.

Jay Plotkin lost the race for State Attorney, but his 1 vote beat Angela Corey in the presidential race. And the hyrbid candidate Hilary Bush got a vote!?

In the battle of the Bills - Bill Cosby and Bill Nye both received 2, beating Bills Clinton and Richardson with one apiece.

Morgan Freeman got a vote

Chuck Norris did too.

Mr. Bill - yes, the fictional clay figure - also was chosen by someone to lead the country.

Oprah Winfrey endorsed Obama but one person out there said ‘no, Oprah, I want you!”.

Many names weren’t celebrities. Jacksonville resident Wayne Bryan says he voted for himself because he “didn’t like his choices”. When asked if he was ready to lead on day one if elected, he admitted probably not.

America got a vote. My dog. A bear. Mickey Mouse.

UF beat FSU as Tim Tebow received 2 votes with Seminole coach Bobby Bowden getting just one.

Jon Bon Jovi, someone honest, Tiger Woods, Tommy Chong, and perhaps the greatest write-in candidate of all time: Twice cooked pork $4.95

I think I have to agree with the last statement. Twice cooked pork $4.95 would have been the best president ever. Even better then William Henry Harrison.

On the supposed vote fraud in New Hampshire

There are a lot of people online going nuts about Paul’s 8% result in New Hampshire yesterday. I have to admit I’m surprised by the results. RealClearPolitics.com has 6 polls’ numbers and their average. The averages look like this:

  • McCain: 31.8%
  • Romney: 28.2%
  • Huckabee: 12.2%
  • Giuliani: 9.3%
  • Paul: 8.2%
  • Thompson: 2.2%

What we got was:

  • McCain: 37.02%
  • Romney: 31.48%
  • Huckabee: 11.20%
  • Giuliani: 8.53%
  • Paul: 7.23%
  • Thompson: 1.21%
  • Hunter: 0.51%
  • Other: 2.40%

Huckabee, Giuliani, Paul and Thompson look pretty close to the polls which were of likely Republican voters. Is it really the case that the Independents flocked to McCain? I was expecting that Paul would have at least gotten enough Independents to keep his percentile. The events I’ve attended the independents, new voters and Democrats who switched outweighed those who where originally from the Republican party or Libertarian party. I would have suspected that he would have gotten at least 8% of the independents so he’d be at around 8% in the end. It is the Live Free or Die state… and Iowa which can hardly be considered libertarian gave him 10%. It’s the state that gave Pat Buchanan the win in 1996 and Buchanan has been speaking really well of Paul (though no official endorsement.) It all feels a bit weird but I’ve not seen any evidence of foul play. Sutton township accidentally reported zero votes for Paul when it was 31. Shit happens. http://ronrox.com/paulstats.php shows differences between votes counted by hand and votes handled by machines. It is interesting that Paul does a full 2% better in hand counted polls. McCain does 2.87% better and Huckabee 2.65% better. Romney does 7.51% worse. I’d like to see the economic breakdown of those areas which hand counted vs machine. But even with this I’m in no way convinced this means anything. I’ve yet to see anything to indicate foul play. I think it’s much more likely that we screwed up. “[A] late campaign start, late arrival by volunteers, an MSM media black-out, seeing your volunteers spending the last 36 hours of the campaign protesting FOX News and chasing down NeoCon radio hosts instead of focusing on the get-out-the-vote effort, the weather-induced record turnout that allowed the wishy-washy to water down die-hard voters, and so on and so on.” However, as Nick Bradley indicates, Among total votes cast Paul is in 4th at 8.6% above Giuliani at 7.0%. I don’t suspect to continue however given he’s only got max 5% nationwide and if he’s not getting delegates it doesn’t matter. So unless Paul supporters go mascaraed as supporters of McCain and Romney we are SOL.

My worry now is that Paul will decide not to run 3rd party or will not run on the Libertarian ticket. He has till May to become a Libertarian Party member in order to be a candidate. If he does not end up on the Libertarian ticket he would probably run Independent and therefore against the Libertarian and Constitutionalist candidates instead of uniting them. I think it would be in the best interest of the country, Ron Paul and the Libertarian party to have Paul on it’s ticket.

Anyway… here is Alex Jones going off about the info I’ve talked about:

In other but related news… rumor is Bill Richardson is going to drop out of the race soon.

Virginia Heffernan at the NYT joins in on the Ron Paul attack

http://themedium.blogs.nytimes.com/

Ron Paul, our Internet president, seems to have Nazi troubles, as in they’re saying he’s one of them.

Stormfront, a “white nationalist” Internet community, has given him money. And he can’t seem to stop meeting with self-described neo-Nazis, according to Bill White, the Commander of the American National Socialist Workers’ Party.

White’s allegation:

Both Congressman Paul and his aides regularly meet with members of the Stormfront set, American Renaissance, the Institute for Historic Review and others at the Tara Thai restaurant in Arlington, Va., usually on Wednesdays. This is part of a dinner that was originally organized by Pat Buchanan, Sam Francis and Joe Sobran, and has since been mostly taken over by the Council of Conservative Citizens.

Thing is it’s already been refuted. Justin Raimondo over at AntiWar.com has an entire article Ron Paul vs. the Dirty Tricksters which addresses this and more.

To begin with, who the heck is Bill White? Here’s what the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith has to say about him: “Along with his media savvy,” they aver, “White is known for spreading propaganda and lies about his perceived enemies.” Go here for his extensive criminal record. White started his career as a dingbat of renown with the founding of the Utopian Anarchist Party when he was just a lad. The UAP’s 15 minutes of fame occurred after the Columbine High School shootings, when White or one of his wacked-out confreres issued a statement praising the shooters.

Secondly, the man who organized the dinner meetings “Commander” White refers to, Peter Gemma, has this to say:

“I ran those dinners – Ron Paul was never there… If Bill White ever came to the meetings, he didn’t use his real name – he doesn’t even get the name of the restaurant correctly.”

Both the NYT blog post and the AntiWar.com post were released today but at what time for Justin’s is unknown. I’m not going to claim that Ms. Heffernan should have known this but the post Justin refers to is from the 21st. It’s sad to see all these attacks. They have been long refuted and with videos like this (which is what Ms. Heffernan links to) as an attack medium… it’s silly.

I’ve noticed the daily number of attack pieces has risen quite a bit since the Tea Party money bomb. I believe they are even more scared now. If Paul really was such a ‘crackpot’ and hadn’t a chance then why waste breath and web space on him? I don’t see this kind of hubbub about Gravel.
