This one goes out to the continuing erosion of the concept of individual responsibility.  It’s old, but in the words of Mr. Manson, “If I ain’t seen it, it’s new to me.”

Pumpkins for Obama?

TWISTED SISTER guitarist Jay Jay French has re-recorded the band’s 1984 hit song “I Wanna Rock”, dubbing the new version “I Want Barack”. According to The Associated Press, French said that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has energized a new generation of voters who had lost interest in politics. French explained, “He has excited so many people. He has given sincere hope to people who have been out of the arena for years.”

French plays guitar on the track, which features vocals from a singer named Paulie Z.JAY JAY FRENCH AND FRIENDS. The guitarist added that this was not a TWISTED SISTER project because that band’s members were split on which candidates they supported.

The Obama camp did not immediately comment on the song, which is not the first in support of the candidate. BLACK EYED PEAS frontman Will.i.am has recorded two songs with accompanying videos in support of Obama.

French is a lifelong liberal Democrat whose mother campaigned for John F. Kennedy. The song has come out under the banner

That last image is a little creepy. Aren’t images of Christ often with the light beaming from behind too?

New Ron Paul song isn’t so bad

http://www.myspace.com/aimeeallenThere are a decent number of songs which have been written about Ron Paul. Most of them however are pretty bad. Up to this point the one I like the most was King Solomon’s “Ron Paul for the Long Haul.”

Today however I ran across Aimee Allen’s “Ron Paul Revolution Theme Song.” Have to say it’s pretty good given what has come before it.

Universal stops remix.nin.com from debuting

http://www.nin.com/

Several years ago I persuaded my record company to let me begin posting my master recording files on nin.com, in order to see what kind of user-generated content would materialize from my music. I had no agenda… the main reason I did it was because I thought it was cool and something I would have liked to do if it was available to me.

One piece was missing to me and that was an official nin.com presence for aggregating all of the fan-created remixes. Several intrepid fans had stepped up and done a great job providing a destination for people to post these, but I felt all along this was a function I should more directly support. So, upon release of this new remix album, our plan has been to launch an official site on nin.com that would provide a place for all fan remix material and other interactive fan experiences.

Or so I thought.

Boils down to Universal not wanting to be accused of something it’s suing others for doing related to copyright infringement and the DMCA. Copyright really should be thrown away and replaced with traditional contracts. Let the market figure out ways to secure their works.

Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails now a free agent

http://nin.com

Hello everyone. I’ve waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate. Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008. Exciting times, indeed.

I’m interested in seeing what comes next.
