I found this petition linked from Austrian-Athenian Empire:

To:  Dr. Mary J. Ruwart

The Libertarian Party in need of a principled libertarian who can articulate our views effectively while winning over the hearts and minds of the American people to the cause of Liberty.

Likewise, the American people want and deserve a presidential candidate they can trust.

Dr. Mary J. Ruwart, author of the best-selling book Healing Our World in an Age of Aggression, is a principled, articulate speaker, writer, and scientist who has been involved in the libertarian movement for three decades. Her message is one that brings together the various strains of libertarianism, and her work is appreciated by both the pragmatists and purists in our party.

We, the undersigned, implore Dr. Mary J. Ruwart to enter the race for the Libertarian Party’s presidential nomination for the 2012 election.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

I’m not going to be part of those trying to bring back the national LP from the Barr’k side but I’ll happily expend the little effort to voice my agreement with a Ruwart candidacy. For those interested in her beliefs I highly recommend Healing Our World, 3rd Edition.

FORUM KICKS OFF HISTORIC SEPT. 11-12 SERVICENATION SUMMIT

August 21, 2008 [New York, NY] - Presidential candidates Barack Obama
and John McCain will discuss in depth their views on service and civic
engagement in the post-9/11 world during a primetime forum on the
evening of September 11 in New York City.

The Forum is being staged by ServiceNation, a dynamic new coalition of
110 organizations that has a collective reach of some 100 million
Americans and is dedicated to strengthening our democracy and solving
problems through civic engagement and service. It will be the opening
event of the bipartisan, Sept. 11-12, ServiceNation summit, which will
launch a one year grassroots campaign to expand voluntary community and
national service opportunities for all Americans; use proven service
strategies to tackle some of America’s most chronic social challenges;
and call on all Americans to make service a bedrock ideal in our
democracy

At the Forum, called “A Nation Of Service,” Senators McCain and Obama
will appear on stage separately to discuss their respective visions for
the role of service in America’s future. Richard Stengel, Managing
Editor of TIME, will moderate, and the event will be open to all
broadcast networks.

“I look forward to participating in the 9/11 service forum,” said
Senator Obama. “After September 11, Americans of every age, race, region
and walk of life were ready to step up and answer a new call of service
for their country. Making that call to service will be a central cause
of my presidency, because we need the active citizenship of the American
people to meet the challenges of the 21st century.”

“I am pleased to be participating in the ServiceNation Summit in New
York City. The Summit will be an important remembrance of those that
made the ultimate sacrifice serving their country and others as we focus
on how to inspire others to serve causes greater than their own
self-interest through national and community service,” said Senator
McCain.

The Forum audience will include 9/11 family members, young Americans,
military veterans, and thought leaders, and questions can be submitted
by the general public at http://tinyurl.com/6jmhd5. “The Presidential
Candidates’ Forum will serve as a call to action for the next
administration,” said Forum moderator and TIME managing editor Richard
Stengel. “I hope to have candid conversations with Senators McCain and
Obama about their plans for engaging more Americans in national
service.”

I’ve got media credentials now for the summit but I don’t know that I will be able to attend the forum as my confimation email said: “More detailed information, including a schedule of events open to the media and details on media availabilities will be provided shortly.” I’ve sent an email to the Director of Strategic Partnerships to be placed on the invitation waiting list to attend the actual summit. While it seems very unlikely I’ll get the invite I did include that I was a director of the Manhattan Libertarian Party to spice up the request. You can find the rest of the press report minus some quotes from affiliates after the jump.

To restore the people’s faith in government? You’re are on the LP ticket right? hmmm…

The national LP may be in dire straits but Kentucky seems to me at least putting on a show. Sonny Landham has been unanumously removed from the Kentucky LP US Senate race ticket.

Anthony Gregory over at LewRockwell.com/blog reports:

The latest scoop on Sonny Landham, belligerent warmonger and protectionist LP US Senate candidate: The Bluegrass State’s Libertarian Party voted 9 to 0 to take him off the ballot.

Since then, the Kentucky Secretary of State has reversed his decision to let the LP withdraw the “Libertarian” endorsement on the ballot. Richard Winger says that under the circumstances, the LP can either let him stay on the ballot as a Libertarian, or “the party can submit its petition in the middle of August, which will mean that the petition will only be valid for president and vice-president, but not U.S. Senator (the deadline for the presidential and vice-presidential candidate is in early September, but the deadline for all other office is in early August). In that case Landham won’t be on the ballot at all.” A commenter argues that stripping all these signatures from him might be unfair to Landham.

I spoke with the Chair of the KY LP, Ken Moellman, who confirmed that this about sums up their circumstances right now. Under today’s ballot access laws and in this post-McCain/Feingold world, the party faces three currently undisclosed options of what to do, which they will consider at a special executive meeting the chair called for this evening, Moellman told me. Landham will get to give his case. I will give an update when they decide which course to take.

Third Party Watch talks shit on Burning Porc’s LP mock funeral

Some of the losers in the Libertarian Party—those who didn’t want Bob Barr to get the nomination—just aren’t moving on. Here, a bunch of them in New Hampshire hold a mock funeral for Barr and the LP. If you have as much beer and perhaps other stuff as they apparently had, it might qualify as amateurish dark humor—call it the Barr Witch Project. Especially when “Bob Barr” loses his head, and a dog takes interest. Ohmigosh, is he really going to carry it off into the woods?!

Obviously being bought by a conservative, Bob Barr supporter hasn’t tainted the site. Take a look at the comments too. These people don’t have a clue of what the FSP members have accomplished. These party loyalists and second class politicos can keep their party. While they hang out at their debate club and waste time with Robert’s rules of order the rest of us will be trying to make real gains in the fight for freedom.

Attendents of the first annual Burning Porcupine hold mock funeral for Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party

Free Minds TV is on the scene to cover a funeral for Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party. Fed up with the LP’s big government presidential nominee of Bob Barr and the general stripping of the party’s principles, activists in Grafton NH had a mock funeral for the Bob Barr and the LP at the first annual Burning Porcupine.

Log onto http://www.freemindstv.com for more coverage of Burning Porcupine. Also, join the members section of Free Minds TV for the uncut funeral footage and tons of bonus content.

I’m not sure they deserve the respect of a proper funeral.
