CLINTON, Conn. (AP) - A 14-year-old student at Morgan School in Clinton is facing a weapons charge, accused of tinkering with a disposable camera to make it capable of zapping people with an electrical charge.

Police say the camera, modified according to instructions available on the Internet, had been converted into an improvised electronic demobilizing device similar to a Taser.

Police say the student never managed to use the device because a teacher intervened.

School Resource Officer Kyle Strunjo says the makeshift device is potentially capable of a 600-volt shock.

The 14-year-old student has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds, attempted assault and breach of peace.

I did that like 10-12 years ago. I had my entire class in a circle holding hands and would have the people at the end grab the wires I had ran from the capacitor. If people moved it minimized the surface area and hurt more so as they squirmed they’d yell louder. The teachers thought it was funny people would keep zapping themselves over and over. We even used it for one class to spot weld some coins together for some project. People need to lighten up.

68 Senators violate oath of office, pass “Protect America Act” replacement

Yesterday, 19 Democrats, 48 Republicans, and 1 independent voted to violate the Constitution and their oaths of office. Only 28 Democrats, 1 independent, and ZERO Republicans remained true to their oaths. They voted to pass S. 2248, a new law designed to replace the so-called “Protect America Act.”* It permits the President to spy on Americans without a warrant.
* It grants retroactive immunity to tele-communications companies that collaborated with the Bush administration in previous warrantless spying, thereby creating an incentive for other companies to engage in similar crimes in the future (only Qwest Communications insisted on warrants).

All hope is NOT lost. S. 2248 cannot become law unless the House agrees to its provisions. Fortunately, the House version of this bill, while not perfect, is signficantly better. Our best hope, and we must take it, is to tell the House to stick by their version of the bill.

You can go here and use DownsizeDC’s services to send a form letter against this issue to your congressmen. If the Congress and administratation believe the wiretaps were not illegal than why would they need to worry about lawsuits? John McCain voted for this. Continently Senator Clinton and Obama missed this vote. Paul issued this statement on it on January 30th.

Mitt Romney “suspends” his presidential campaign

Mitt Romney suspended his bid for the Republican presidential nomination Thursday, saying if he continued it would “forestall the launch of a national campaign and be making it easier for Senator Clinton or Obama to win.”

“In this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror. This is not an easy decision. I hate to lose,” the former Massachusetts governor said.

“If this were only about me, I’d go on. But it’s never been only about me. I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, in this time of war I feel I have to now stand aside for our party and for our country.”

Romney made the announcement Thursday afternoon at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

With Romney out, Sen. John McCain is locked in as the front-runner in the GOP race.

Romney had won 286 delegates in through the Super Tuesday contests, compared with McCain’s 697.

The crowd booed when Romney mentioned McCain, saying, “I disagree with Sen. McCain on a number of issues.”

Interesting. I was really hoping he’d go all the way. This really changes things. Huckabee will either drop out soon and take the VP slot or will try to pick up Romney’s wins. Even though Romney’s main attack on McCain was that he wasn’t conservative enough I very much doubt that the only real conservative in the race will pick up Mitt’s delegates. Some are suggesting that Paul stay in the Republican race AND announce a third party run to both scare the Republicans and appease his supporters. At this point it may not be a bad idea but I’m not sure he can. I’m not familiar enough with the Republican and Libertarian party’s rules to say. An issue would arise with his congressional reelection campaign I would imagine.

Giuliani and Edwards drop

Rudy Giuliani has dropped out and backed McCain. His Florida first plan was terrible. He spent money hand over fist and yet was way behind by the time he got there. My guess is that he’s been offered a position in a McCain cabinet.

John Edwards has dropped and not currently endorsing anyone. I suspect he either made a deal with Clinton or Obama or is completely out of money. Otherwise it seems odd that he would drop before Super Tuesday.
