David Shuster goes head to head with Ron Paul

It started the 26th when Shuster was filling in for Tucker Carlson (who is a Paul supporter.)

And this morning on Morning Joe where Shuster was filling in for Joe Scarborough this happened:

What a pompous group. I think bosco put it well… they “might as well have a bucket over [their] head[s] and shout “I CAN’T HEAR YOU” while interviewing people.” They scoff at reading anything which disagrees with their preexisting notions of truth. They say history is written by the winners… well the Hamiltonians, Lincoln supporters, Wilsonianists, FDRs won. Perhaps people should read that which is written by the losers more often.

Ron Paul on Meet the Press with Tim Russert tomorrow

Forget the money bombs and all the fundraising for now, this is the big weekend for Ron Paul and it has nothing to do with cash or campaign fundraising efforts.  He finally has broken through and will appear on the mainstream number one Sunday morning talk show ‘Meet the Press’ with host Tim Russert.   This is the key point in the campaign so far, he has to deliver a great performance.

The show is promoting it like this on their website, “2008 Presidential Contender Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) joins us this Sunday as our “Meet the Candidates” series continues.  Tune in to find out where Paul stands on the major issues facing the country as he makes his “Meet the Press” debut — and marks the twelfth installment of our series interviewing the presidential contenders from both parties.”

At least they called him a contender and not a long shot.  Love him or hate him, this is a big moment for Paul.  It will be quite interesting to see how tough Tim Russert tries to get with the US Congressman from Texas.  Russert earlier promoted the appearance on the ‘Today’ show and may have given an indication on what he will discuss.

He mentioned Paul’s fundraising efforts and said that many people will be ’surprised’ at some of his positions.  That may mean that Russert will give Paul a grilling and expect lots of ‘gotcha’ type questions.  I think that’s fair game, and Paul needs to be ready.  Expect anything negative (and there has been plenty of negative stuff about the Paul campaign this week) to be brought forward.  The network schedule is here.

I imagine quite a few people watch Meet the Press and this is a wonderful opportunity for Dr. Paul to introduce himself to people. I thought he did well the other night on the Glenn Beck show and Tucker Carlson talks him up but we need more MSM coverage even if some wish to just circumvent them. Unfortunately many people simply will not take anyone serious unless they are talked up in the MSM.

As with the Glenn Beck appearance I will post the video when it’s available online.

Pimp My Ride by Tucker Carlson

The first thing I learned from driving around Nevada with Ron Paul for a couple of days: People really hate the Federal Reserve. This became clear midway through a speech Paul was giving to a group of Republicans at a community center in Pahrump, a dusty town about 60 miles west of Las Vegas. Pahrump is known for its legal brothels (Heidi Fleiss lives there), but most of the people in the audience looked more like ranchers than swingers. They stood five deep at the back of the room and listened politely as the candidate spoke.

Until Paul got to the part about the Fed. “We need a much better monetary system,” he said, a system based on “sound money, money that’s backed by something.” Paul, who is small and delicate and has a high voice, spoke in a near monotone, making no effort to excite the audience. They cheered anyway. Then he said this: “The Constitution gives no authority for a central bank.” The crowd went wild, or as wild as a group of sober Republicans can on a Monday night. They hooted and yelled and stomped their feet. Paul stopped speaking for a moment, his words drowned out. Then he continued on about monetary policy.

Wow, I thought. The constitutionality of a central bank is not an issue you see on many lists of voter concerns. (How many pollsters would think to ask about it? How many voters would understand the question?) Yet a room full of non-economists had just responded feverishly when Paul brought it up. Hoping for some context, I went outside and found a Paul staffer. He didn’t sound surprised when I told him about the speech. “It’s our biggest applause line,” he said.

I’m a bit conflicted about this article. I’ve watched Tucker say he’s going to vote for Paul, say Paul’s Christmas ad is the only authentic one, and generally seems to fawn over him. But at times in his article he seems to poke fun at Paul or at least his supporters. That can be excused… I’m sure he ran into some interesting folks on his trip with Paul. But things like inviting the brothel owner seem almost like a setup. We all know that Paul doesn’t care nor does his supporters but those who aren’t supporters may be turned off and Tucker knows or should have known that. Ignoring that however the article is quite good. I’m glad we have someone in the MSM who appears to actually support Dr. Paul… just don’t know how many actually pay attention to him.

Andrew Sullivan endorses Ron Paul

[T]he deeper reason to support Ron Paul is a simple one. The great forgotten principles of the current Republican party are freedom and toleration. Paul’s federalism, his deep suspicion of Washington power, his resistance to government spending, debt and inflation, his ability to grasp that not all human problems are soluble, least of all by government: these are principles that made me a conservative in the first place. No one in the current field articulates them as clearly and understands them as deeply as Paul. He is a man of faith who nonetheless sees a clear line between religion and politics. More than all this, he has somehow ignited a new movement of those who love freedom and want to rescue it from the do-gooding bromides of the left and the Christianist meddling of the right. The Paulites’ enthusiasm for liberty, their unapologetic defense of core conservative principles, their awareness that in the new millennium, these principles of small government, self-reliance, cultural pluralism, and a humble foreign policy are more necessary than ever - no lover of liberty can stand by and not join them.

He’s the real thing in a world of fakes and frauds. And in a primary campaign where the very future of conservatism is at stake, that cannot be ignored. In fact, it demands support.

Go Ron Paul!

The mixed group of Ron Paul endorsements doesn’t seem to stop. Dennis Kucinich, Barry Goldwater, Jr., a group of strippers, Joe Scarborough’s son, Hutton Gibson (Mel Gibson’s father), Peter Schiff, Tucker Carlson, Bill Maher, Dennis Hof (brothel owner), Jim Cramer, Kinky Friedman, Jim Rogers, Anony Moose and even Jesus. And in 1988 we even had David Letterman. And lets not forget all those who donated to the campaign.
