A couple convicted of tax evasion was taken into custody after a five-month-long standoff with federal agents in New Hampshire, a federal law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation told CNNA couple convicted of tax evasion was taken into custody after a five-month-long standoff with federal agents in New Hampshire, a federal law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN.

Ed and Elaine Brown, who had refused to surrender to authorities to serve their prison sentences, were taken into custody without incident Thursday evening by U.S. Marshals at about 8:00 p.m.

This is sad. I surely didn’t want people to be harmed by I didn’t want them to taken in without some sort of fight.

Update: From the Associated Press; “The arrests ‘will be a relief to everyone in the community,’ state Agriculture Commissioner Stephen Taylor, a Plainfield resident, said Thursday night. ‘This has been such a distraction to everybody.’” Yeah… I’m pretty sure it’s not a relief to everyone. I’m sure many of the Free Staters are pissed.

Update2: From the comments of the Union Leader; “Please get a clue. Pay your taxes and live a normal life. No reason to fight everything. If you don’t like it, move to another country.” –Roscoe Rules, Manchester. Pay your taxes and be good sheeple. Don’t make waves. Don’t bother stand up for your beliefs. It’s too dangerous. As for those yelling about the 16th Amendment… it doesn’t make a statute implementing an income tax. It gives the congress the right to lay unapportionated direct taxes. US Code Title 26 is the law implementing it.

Update3: WMUR U.S. marshals posing as supporters carried out the arrests of tax evaders Ed and Elaine Brown, officials said Friday.

The undercover officers were invited in by the Browns on Thursday evening, and before the couple realized they weren’t supporters, they were already under arrest.

“Ultimately, this open-door policy that they seemed to have which allowed the Browns to have some supporters bring them supplies, welcome followers and even host a picnic –this proved to be their undoing,” U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier said. “They invited us in. We escorted them out.”

Where do we stand today in our country in the matter of freedom? Do we even know what freedom is today? The founders of our country knew, but it took them a couple of years to realize it.

After escaping from Britain and the rules of the king, it took those brave pilgrims some time to fully realize and be able to appreciate the fact that they had no one to whom to answer, save their own conscience and common law (common sense). What joy to know this kind of liberty, which they had never before experienced. They could now conduct themselves as freely as they wished, as long as they honored their contracts and did no harm to another. This is the total of common law; this is the law by which the people, the sovereigns, of this country are to abide, the law we were intended to obey.

Roadblock at the Browns: Brown Supporter Lauren Canario Arrested

Federal Marshals set up a roadblock on Center of Town Road in Plainfield today and are refusing to let anyone visit the Browns. In a deliberate act of civil disobedience, Lauren Canario began walking to the Brown’s home from the roadblock and was arrested.

Lebanon Jail Story

At the roadblock on Center of Town Road, I walked past the state police, the county sheriff, but the fat U.S. Marshal asked,” Where are you going”?

“Taking a walk,” I answered. Numerous police started shouting at me.

Peaceful people found guilty of no crime arrested for walking down the street and admitting to supporting Ed and Elaine Brown who were convicted of tax evasion and have refused to be arrested. Seems the federal government has started to crackdown and will probably attempt a siege. I wonder if the supporters will come up with other ways to get supplies to them.

Four supporters of the Browns arrested

Four supporters of Plainfield tax protesters Ed and Elaine Brown were arrested yesterday and charged with helping the Browns obstruct justice, according to the U.S. Marshal for New Hampshire.

The four men, who were arrested outside of New Hampshire, include Cirino Gonzalez, the longtime Brown blogger who boasted of bringing a .50-caliber rifle to the house; and Daniel Riley, the Albany electrician who was Tasered by marshals in June after stumbling upon a surveillance team while walking the Browns’ dog.

The four men have all spent time at the Browns’ fortified concrete home over the last eight months while the couple has refused to surrender to authorities. The Browns were both convicted of tax crimes and sentenced to more than five years in prison. But they have remained holed up at home, thanks, in part, to a rotating cast of supporters bringing them food, supplies and cell phones. The Browns contend that there is no law requiring them to pay federal income taxes, and they have vowed to die before turning themselves in.

These charges are ridiculous. They are just trying to scare current and potential supporters. These people won’t be scared. They are standing up to a hostile organization which is threating their freedom.
