Here’s democracy for you

Obama:
- Vote%: 52%
- Votes: 62,117,243
McCain:
- Vote%: 47%
- Votes: 55,131,597
All other: 1%
Congratulations. Mob rules again. Not learning from times past we again get two wolves and a sheep deciding whats for dinner. People talk about a wasted vote? Those 48% which voted for McCain and others and those above 50% for Obama were wasted. The 48% get NOTHING. For all the time and money spent for a goverenment they don’t want at best and passionately hate at worst. A single man being chosen to head the executive branch of 300+ million people does not work. At what point will the general population realise this? At what point will there be a significant secession movemet?

I think I may have asked this before: how do you balance a hatred for “mob rules” and the idea of binding ballot initiatives? Also, it sounds as if you are arguing against the position of a president. What is your alternative and can you reference a country (past or present) that has implemented it.

Ideally get rid of government requiring representation by people you will never meet. New Hampshire has a House of Representatives with 400 members. 3rd largest in the English speaking world next the the British parliament and the US House. There is one representative for about every 3,300 residents. Make it so that ballot initiatives require more than 1/2 of voters to pass. Two thirds, four fifths. Make it the percentage of registered voters instead of actual voters. Make it a percentage of eligible voters.
The position of the president is a stones throw from dictatorship. The position and the means to fill it are outdated given the role. Make it popular instant runoff. Create a parliamentary system. Find some other way to get rid of the winner takes all system. Make election law uniform. The USA is no longer a confederation of states with a weak general government. Treat it and it’s government as what it is. There are lots of ways to make it better… just because those in power don’t allow it to occur means little to me. Illegitimate actions don’t change simply because you can’t come up with anything better or are unable to implement them.
