The fact that government is doing this makes it mandatory regardless of whether they physically force people to personally serve. The foundation of all these points are bad therefore the “good points” you refer to are bad.

Second, Laura Bush was on NPR talking about this today.
Third, there are a lot of good points flying around on this topic.  It’s a shame that so many of them will be dashed against the rocks due to somebody’s foolish idea of making things mandatory.
