A little blurb floated up on the CNN screen tonight: Both Denver and Minneapolis received $50. million dollars of federal money for security of the Democratic and Republican conventions. My question - why isn’t security paid for by the parties themselves?

The same reasons they don’t pay for the primaries. The same reasons there are laws bias to 3rd parties.
The D’s and R’s are two wings of the same party and they have been in control for 100+ years and do whatever they like.

When we were driving down to NJ the other day checking on traffic, we caught Jason Scheurer calling into NJ 101.5. He raised a point about the incredible hoops that the Libertarian candidates have to go through to get on the ballots, while the Democrats and Republicans can wait until after deadlines or submit applications without signatures, etc. The DJs let him have his 2 minute talk and simply finished with, “Yeah, too bad, thanks for calling,” and then moved onto their usual banal programming. For a station that seems to pride itself on hating the state government, you’d think maybe they’d look into somebody advocating change. Oh well, at least he got 2 minutes.

NJ 101.5 doesn’t really give a damn about anything other than making money.
