Paul is both was my first thought but then she made an exception for him. I guess Barney Frank isn’t an ‘average’ politician either? Nor the other cosponsers?
Rep Baldwin, Tammy [WI-2] - 5/20/2008

Every 38 seconds someone is arrested for possession of marijuana. Sometimes they are harshly punished, other times they enter drug treatment programs. The best indicator of the type of punishment someone will receive is race. Either way, the mere fact that they are arrested is life changing enough.
Numerous studies have shown that a causal relationship between marijuana use and other crimes cannot be established. Marijuana is a drug that is relatively benign to society as a whole so even if you believe that the needs of the many allow a group to infringe upon the rights of a few, there is still no reason to fight a war on marijuana.

Ron Paul himself said that he wants to end the Federal governments war on drugs and let that issue be handled on the State and local level. Just keep the feds out of it to save money.
