I agree... only given that a few of the Reserve branches are more conservative then the others and have made similar speeches in the past I don't see much coming from it. I'm too lazy to look up when or who but I've seen at least 2 other type rants from them.

I just found the speech refreshing, coming from someone in his relatively high position. The pot may be calling the kettle black here, but it at least Fisher has dissented against the latest few rounds of rate cuts.

He's throwing blame on Congress definitely as should be. The Fed didn't make those promises. However, Congress alone can't destroy the currency. They definitely help by putting us into debt and causing natural devaluation. They made and keep laws on the books which outlaw competing currencies. The Fed however is not under any direct control of the Congress. They are an fairly independent and private organization. When they increase the money supply and monetize debt they are working with Congress and Wall Street. It's a giant scam. If they don't want inflation. Stop inflating. Let the market go through the credit pains and it will better for it later.

What politician is going to willingly cut these programs? Well the only one we all know who would work to end them in any Constitutional fashion possible would be Ron Paul but the MSM, the others in power and then therefore the people have ignored him or attempted to squash his message. He has introduced and cosponsors plenty of bills to deal with these issues. From abolishing the Fed to just making the congressmen more effected by the deficit. If we can get Murray Sabrin into office we'll have two libertarians in congress. May not help get legislation passed but these things need to be heard more. That's why Paul is still in the race. These are huge huge issues. Money is at the core of the economy. Fuck with it and you effect everything above. This issue is hopefully one that Barr/Root will speak about regularly too. If any positive can come from the Barr nomination is his semi-popularity with the media. Even if he isn't the best libertarian he will still have to carry the LP banner and he'll be able to get on TV and say much the same as Paul but with a little more respect paid.
