Hooded sweatshirt fashion trend could become dangerous
Posted on March 31st, 2008 by invisipunk Categories and Tags: Uncategorized, Alabama, CD Warehouse, cops, crime, hoodies, James Barber, masks, MOBILE, Mobile Police, MyFox Gulf Coast, Phillip Garrett, police, police state, robberyMOBILE, Ala. — Mobile Police say hoodies can make for a dangerous outfit…want proof? A still shot from a security camera of two robbery suspects…or surveillance video of an armed robbery at CD Warehouse. All three are wearing hooded sweatshirts. “I’m concerned somebody is going to get hurt,” said Mobile Police Chief Phillip Garrett.
Police call the sweatshirts a ready made mask - a design driven by crime. Two of the sweatshirts were both confiscated from robbery suspects. Officers believe the hooded sweatshirts are to blame for the spike in crime and add the garment motivates young people with no criminal record to commit very serious crimes.
“There is no hooded gang, only a hooded garment motivating kids to do things they normally wouldn’t have,” said Deputy James Barber. Police want the hooded sweatshirts banned from stores - in fact they hope to put an ordinance on the books forbidding them.
“Shouldn’t tolerate any design that lets you quickly disguise yourself, “said Deputy Barber.
Police hope this fashion trend will go away - before someone gets hurt.Chief Garrett adds that stores who sale the hooded sweatshirts are all sold out. If you do find one of these hooded sweatshirts in your child’s closet or car - police think it’s probably best they don’t wear the garment.
I hope they make these with V masks. Has anyone registered maskedrobberygearonline.com yet?

Oh yeah, I’ve seen a bunch of these at school already. There are lots of teachers "concerned" about what should be done. I say you just treat it like someone was wearing a ski-mask, as them to take it off. What’s to stop someone from walking around with a ski-mask anyway? The stores by me refuse service to people wearing real low brims and glasses or ski-masks. I don’t see why the stores around there shouldn’t do the same.
Personally if some punk kid wants to wear something to dramatically decrease their peripheral vision, I think you should have no trouble sneaking up on them a wrapping a zip tie around the top part of their hoodie.

At my high school, hoodies were not only an official part of warmup uniforms for a lot of sports teams, but sold in the school store. With this reasoning, why aren’t they outlawing pockets? Those are awfully convenient to store stolen merchandise.

And what’s the deal with sneakers outside the gym? Where are these kids running off to so quickly?

I was really confused by this article until I went to the source and saw the photo.

Yeah, for a moment I thought this was slashdot and never bothered reading the article. (I had thought the article in question was just an American aversion to this hoodie.) So I looked at this photo and fell out of my seat laughing.

It gets even funnier when you see a teenager get their hair stuck in the zipper.
