N.J. senator proposes toy gun ban

A New Jersey senator wants to make it illegal to sell or give to anyone under age 18 toy guns that look so realistic they can be mistaken for a real firearm.

“The margin between a child’s stupid mistake and a tragic ending is far too thin,” said Sen. Nicholas Scutari.

If our society hadn’t gotten all uptight about guns we wouldn’t have to worry about this. Making this illegal won’t stop kids from getting realistic looking toy guns. Nor will it stop them from getting real ones. It’s the parents responsibility to make sure little Jimmy doesn’t get ahold of a firearm and it’s the cop’s responsibility to be reasonable when dealing with an uncertain situation.

Plods to get helmet cams

Police officers are to be equipped with head cameras under the government’s latest crime fighting initiative.

Alongside the Plymouth report, the Home Office has published guidance to standardise police procedures for body worn video devices. The document says that police should tell people they are being recorded and that recordings should not be made of general patrolling duties, unless this is part of a specific operation such as a football match.

Should tell people they are being recorded? Should not be made of general patrolling duties? Sounds like a real deterrent to abuse. These cops should have to wear bright neon signs which say “YOU ARE BEING WATCHED VIDEOTAPED” and you should be able to hand them a SD flash card and get a copy.

U.S. is building database on Iraqis

The U.S. military is taking fingerprints and eye scans from thousands of Iraqi men and building an unprecedented database that helps track suspected militants.

U.S. troops are stopping Iraqis at checkpoints, workplaces and sites where attacks have recently occurred, and inputting their personal data using handheld scanners or specially equipped laptops. In several neighborhoods in and around Baghdad, troops have gone door to door collecting data.

Iraq at the moment is a police state and the public according to the article are OK with this. I hope when the war is over they demand the data destroyed. With REAL ID, the Manhattan surveillance cameras and other like programs how long till the federal government here in the USA tries something like this? How long till we have a system like in Gattaca?

Student CD Promotes Positive Relationship With Police

Students in Liberty City are sending a message through music — “The Police, They’re Alright.” That song is one of 17 on a CD that will be released in August. The music was written and performed by children in the Miami Police Athletic League’s Liberty Square Summer Program. The students said they hope their music will lessen the tension between inner city youth and law enforcement.

Yeah… this isn’t even good propaganda. What kid would take this serious? Here are some clips of the other songs.
